Migraine headaches are common but less frequent than sinus headaches. Sufferers have one or more of the following complaints:
- Severe headaches usually in one side of the head
- An aura before the headache
- Flashes of light in the eyes or unusual smell
- Nausea and vomiting with the headache
- Feel better in the dark
- Relieved only by migraine medications
- Sinus and nose symptoms are minimal, if any
- Pain in the abdomen (abdominal migraine)
Sometimes migraine headaches are related to a food allergy problem. Identifying the food triggers of the headaches by allergy testing can be rewarding. Avoidance of the triggers after they are identified can be of great help.
